The ranch style home became popular after World War II. The catch-all style took parts of craftsman, Bungalow, Prairie and Modern. The Ranch style is eclectic and individual, incorporating elements of any of its antecedents.
As we design, let’s use Prairie elements of wide overhang for shading. Let’s use large widows of a modern home on the south for a passive solar home design. Let’s use the shape and space efficient floor layout of a Bungalow to create a more energy efficient home. Let’s add a covered porch on the west like a craftsman home to keep the house cooler in the summer.
If we are not sure what style of home were are designing, let’s call it a Ranch and make it a green home by adding the conservation elements Sunterra incorporates in all of its energy efficient homes.
